Father's Day
A Father a Day
I’ve been a dad for ten years. On average I think I’d been a good one. That means I’ve not been a great one more than a few times.
Here’s the thing: your kid(s) should not make you mad. Period. They should make you worry, smile, cry, think, pause. Is there something wrong with you if your get Mad at them? Yes. If they make you shout; get yourself checked out.
I’m not judging. I’m down here with you. This is not high on my horse preaching. This is hand on the shoulder advise. If you get mad at your kids, you’re mad about something else. And you know this.
Don’t slump. You’re doing the best you can, but you can do better. Get help. Get therapy. If you’re too much of a man to believe in head doctors. Fine. Get someone to talk to, regularly, and preferably not over beers.
It’s not on them the burden to understand you. It’s on you, their dad, the responsibility to understand yourself.
